‘True Blood,’ ‘Glee’ Among GLAAD Awards Nominees

Filed under: Celebrities, Movies, Television — bonerguide @ 2:47 pm

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation released the nominations for its 22nd annual GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday (January 20). Television shows such as “Glee” and “True Blood” are in the running to win honors, as are films like “Burlesque” and “Easy A.” The GLAAD awards, which honor “outstanding images of the LGBT community” in the world of media, will be celebrated at three ceremonies — in New York on March 19, in Los Angeles on April 16 and in San Francisco on May 14.

“This year’s nominees represent some of the images and stories at the root of the growing acceptance of our community and support for our equality,” GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said in a statement. “They also have created a benchmark for inclusion of our community that other media outlets should look to. As GLAAD celebrates 25 years of working with the media, we are proud to recognize this year’s nominees and we challenge the industry to share more stories that reflect the diversity of our community and the challenges that gay and transgender people face.”

Johnny Weir officially comes out in a new memoir

Filed under: Celebrities — bonerguide @ 1:07 pm

Until now, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir has always avoided confirming what he’s never actually tried to hide – he’s gay. But in his new memoir, Welcome to My World, Weir finally says it. In an excerpt in People, he speaks lovingly about the parents he’s said before raised him to have respect for others and himself. “My parents never made me feel odd, even though I definitely didn’t act like all the other kids,” he says. “That’s why I believed in myself.” He talks about the moment he first knew he was “different.” “Watching Richard Gere in Pretty Woman at the tender age of six was when I had first realized there was something different about me. I wanted to be Julia Roberts so badly. Kissing seemed like a weird thing to do, but I knew if I was going to do it, it would be with Richard Gere.”

Nicollette Sheridan Drops Abuse Claims in ‘Desperate Housewives’ Lawsuit

Filed under: Celebrities, Legal, Television — bonerguide @ 4:26 pm

Remember those bombshell allegations of physical and emotional abuse on the set of Desperate Housewives that Nicollette Sheridan lobbed at ABC and the show’s creator Marc Cherry in April?

Well, now the actress has agreed to drop the most explosive claims in her $20 million lawsuit against the network and Cherry. In a joint stipulation filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Sheridan drops her claim for intentional infliction of emotional distress and agrees she won’t assert any claim for emotional or physical damages. In exchange, she won’t have to submit to a mental or physical examination. Nice move, ABC.
